WEFA is a registered voluntary organization of graduate / post-graduate women engineers of Assam, both working as well as retired and also includes the self-employed. As there was no organization or forum of women engineers to discuss and deliberate various common issues, it was contemplated to form  a common platform of women engineers, on 25th October 2009, by a few enthusiastic engineers, namely, Rekha Majumder, Indira Das, Nayan Bhandari Sarma, Labanya Padmapati Barua and Mridula Das. Later, at a general meeting held on 15th November 2009, at the residence of  Rekha Majumder, attended by 12 lady engineers, it was decided to form the Women Engineers´Forum of Assam (WEFA), with Rita Rajkhowa as President, Rekha Majumdar as Secretary and nine others as Executive Committee members. It was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 vide Regn. No. Rs. KAM (M-38) /240/A-21/616 of 2009-10 Dated 3-3-2010.

Main aims and objectives of the forum is to unite all the women Engineers of Assam initially and to work together for the benefit of the society, and particularly for promotion and expansion of Technical and Vocational Education among women and upliftment of the women. It is a non-political organization. More details are given in the Constitution of WEFA posted on the web-site.

The jurisdiction of forum will be initially restricted to Assam and there is provision in the Constitution to extend its activities to the entire North Eastern  Region and also to other regions of India.

Presently, the membership strength of WEFA stands at 101. Meetings of WEFA are held at the office complex of the Institution of Engineers at Panbazar, Guwahati. WEFA has already celebrated the World´s Environment Day on 5th June 2013 by planting trees at Kasturba Ashram, Ulubari.

We extend our Hearty Welcome to all women engineers, who are not members, to join us and enrich WEFA by their experience and expertise.
